One of the things that has concerned me in the past and now even more in my new role is how funding is distributed across the territory. If there is such a thing as a pot of money that the Yukon has to work with every year then how is this distributed among all citizens? Appearently there is a formula in place for determining how much each community receives in block funding from YTG. I would really like to understand this formula if only I could get someone to explain it. Recently I asked Premier Fentie if he could shed some light on it. He just laughed and said that no one understands that formula. I’ve had similar responses from others when asked. Only Peter Jenkins gave me an overview of how that process works but I need more info. The reason is that I want to see how fair it is and whether it’s up to date or not. Dawson’s block funding from the territory is less and less every year while other communities are showing an increase.
I will be making a concerted effort to dig into this question and become more knowledable on how monies are distributed with an eye to increasing Dawson’s share.

Hi John,
Here’s a website that looks at the federal funding they may have some insight.

If you manage to get hold of the formula (and perhaps an example), I wouldn’t mind seeing it.
