Dawson was graced with a visit by her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean and her husband His Excellency Jean-Daniel Lafond. Paula and I were lucky enough to be seated at her table at Commissioner Van Bibber’s dinner at the Palace Grand Theatre on Tuesday. Both the Commissioner and Governor General have an incredible aura about them, so it was nice to bask in that warm light for awhile, hope some of that rubbed off on me. Usually in these situations it’s hard to engage in small talk, but as the evening wore on everyone at the table grew more relaxed, to the point where I was almost addressing the Governor General and her husband as ‘you guys’, luckily I caught my faux pas in time.
Our mission I think, was to impress upon their Excellencies how vibrant and alive Dawson is and how much creative potential has yet to be exploited in our fantastic little town. After the community round table with them I think we may have driven that point home. Their message to us was about diversity and the celebration of cultural differences. They told us that Dawson could be held up as an example of those principles. They promised to return and it was revealed later by someone that Her Excellency had already heard about the Music Festival expressing a desire to attend one year. Let’s hope that happens.

Was sorry to have missed this event, but Betty’s family reunion has been in the works since last fall and we bought our tickets in February, before we knew she was coming. Sound like it was AN OCCASSION.
Weather has been moderate here in Onterrible. Mid-20s and the humidity has been low.
