I would like to find separate email addresses to contact the mayor and council about a charity fundraiser. I searched the website for "contact us" or somesuch, but it is not obvious to me. Could you provide these? Thank you

I am writing to express my concern over the current state of repair on much of the boardwalk around town. There are many places with rotting boards, and quite a few spots where they are broken right in. For example, across from the
theatre. A large number of the tourists that we rely on are senior citizens and a fall could be a great hazzard to their health. Can you tell me if there is anything planned to make repairs to the boardwalk. Thank you.

John, I am a councillor in the City of Sarnia who was at the FCM conference - ran into one of your colleagues from the north on the elevator but did not have time to look you up.
So here' s the deal, from your blog I've decided you're someone I need to visit in person - from my little corner of south western Ontario. I'll be making my way to Dawson City with my husband Eric from Whitehorse. We're flying in on August 23rd, renting a car and coming to visit our son who's heart has been stolen by the Yukon. Any chance we could connect with you or you and Paula during that first week? It's fun to visit with politicians when travelling, I met some good ones as well at FCM. Our son is taking Dad and Mom to Alaska between August 31 and September 6 so he and dad can fish and terrorize Mom with bears - I think is the plan so far. Our son is encouraging us to make our way to Dawson and out-trip the first week while he's working. Our fire chief in Sarnia - Pat Cayan is going to help make some suggestions as a former Dawson City resident. Plans will be made in the days ahead so if we can meet, please let me know.
Thanks for your comments Vanessa,

It's extremely frustrating to me and others that our territorial government is willing to download this issue to the municipal level while doing everything possible to avoid the leadership that has been displayed by B.C. and the N.W.T. regarding province and territory wide controls on public smoking.

At the upcoming Association of Yukon Communities AGM the following resolution will be voted on by the membership;

---------

Town of the City of Dawson: No-Smoking Legislation

WHEREAS no territorial legislation exists on the subject of public smoking,

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Association of Yukon Municipalities on behalf of its members, appeals to the Yukon Territorial Government’s Minister of Health to introduce no-smoking legislation that protects the health of all Yukon while creating a Territory wide standard that will ensure a level playing field for everyone.

---------

Even Premier Fentie expressed concern by way of lip service to the Yukon Medical Association AGM in 2005, stating that 'young Yukoners smoking is higher than the national average." That was two years ago and pretty well underscores this government's lack of commitment to solving this problem.

Let us hope that recent pressure from many health professionals, communities and others will convince Minister Cathers to actually do something for the whole territory and not burden smaller municipalities with the task.

I am wondering if the mayor is making any headway with Yukon Government on the issue of implementing Yukon-wide non-smoking law?

I would like to begin pressuring our mayor & council (watson Lake) and Fentie etc. to make rural communities non-smoking like Whitehorse.

This is not a comment, but a question. My mother passed away on Jan 1, 2007 and she had told me that a great uncle of mine was once Mayor of Dawson City. His name was Hindson (not sure about the spelling). I heard you on CBC radio this morning, Mayor Steins, talking about Victor Jory, which prompted me to write.

If possible, could you have someone research my mother's statement, please?

thank you

Dear John;
I recently heard your interview on CBC radio. I had not heard the news that you were elected Mayor of Dawson City, Congratulations!

I also want to comment on your Blog, it is excellent. My daughter Megan (9 years old) is now working on a Grade 4 school project on the Yukon Territory and your site was helpful for her to get a real feel for the land. It looks beautiful.

Say Hi to Paula for me,

Take care

"my house has many rooms"

And so I hope has those of the mayor and council if they think that anybody gave them a mandate to tell the territorial government how to conduct themselves.

If you really want to close down the last bar in Dodge you better get ready for an extended sleep-over 'cos you'll be the only one with heat.
The self-righteous arrogance that seems to be the shell of an acclaimed representative can only lead to do-gooderism of the worst water. If you surround yourself with mirrors you will only see the reflection of your choice.

Can you not be more imaginative than everybody else and possibly follow the mandate of our only elected rep.(notwithstanding our councillors), stop trumpeting the cant of Yawn (who, even with your support got a sound drubbing when he suggested the PC "idea" that you should tell us how to conduct our affairs) and in a democratic society, which you O so recently longed for, can you not respect the minority which just asks to be left alone, and merely request that smoke-free areas and fresh air be supplied to employees (I like to call them "Associate Owners") and customers alike.

I can dig that!
