Don’t mean to toot my own horn… but I will anyway.
Looks like some of my music will be used for a segment of the Canada Winter Games opening ceremonies. Dancers with Latitude, the renowned Whitehorse dance company will be incorporating a selection from my album Midnight Light for their portion of the ceremonies. Very cool.
This album is over 25 years old now and has sold thousands of copies over time (double platinum by Yukon standards – ha ha) but am happy to say that it’s not relegated to the dustbin just yet. Yes, yes I know it’s like resting on one’s laurels based on the success of a single project way back when and not having pursued a career in music, etc. That is the fate of being a generalist. Society only rewards specialists. It was a great experience, especially getting to work with artists like Daniel Lanois (a little name dropping never hurt anyone).
For those that want to hear a few samples can go to my online iPod.

John,
I happened to tune into the little ipod the other day and was, once again, impressed with the music. I have given the album to nearly everyone in my family plus friends living overseas. It might be 25+ years old but that does not take away from the fact that it is good music. Thanks.

Music ages better than wine. As for generalists vs specialists, the latter concentrate their energies on achieving heights within a small slice of life while the former develop a balanced appreciation of life. A generalist’s balanced appreciation makes for a better foundation for life than a specialist’s pinnacle. Congratulations John!
Midnight Light remains one of my favorite albums along with the memories of you and Scott and Mosaic in the afternoon on CBC Radio. I’m glad to hear it has achieved a new life along with new listeners. For those who love this music, you could also try Fripp & Eno’s Evening Star. Both go so well with the late light in northern spring and summer. And while I live in another beautiful Canadian place, I truly miss that light.
Thanks Craig, somehow it doesn’t seem that long ago but I guess it is, and you’re right, the light is pretty amazing at this time of year but then so are the ocean breezes of the East Coast!
