The venerable northern magazine Up Here has conducted a reader’s survey of “What’s best in the North”. In the October, 2007 issue 34 picks were selected and yours truly was voted best mayor north of 60. Needless to say I am very flattered and humbled but have to say truthfully I’m not sure I see myself as being the best mayor. Especially in the presence of so many other municipal leaders across the north with years of experience under their belts making my 16 months in office look like chicken feed. A mayor is only as good as his council and staff so any accolades should be distributed accordingly. Of course my totally unbiased view is that we have a great town council supported by an amazing staff who would make any mayor look good. Thanks anyway to those that voted for me.

I can easily understand the choice. In fact, the picture explains it all:
1. Bartender citizen talking about you behind your back, and you are not throwing things at them.
2. You are saving a seat, c/w drink, for any citizen who may want to sit down with you to talk about stuff.
3. And, most important of all – you look like you are thinking!

Thanks Byrun, you were one of many people calling me on the phone urging me to run for mayor so that there would be some opposition in case an ‘unwelcome’ candidate threw his hat in the ring.
