I’m happy to say that our skating rink at the Art And Margie Fry Rec Centre is looking fantastic judging by a tour last Friday given by Public Works Super Norm Carlson. Every year our rec team along with Public Works makes improvements in order to squeeze more good use out this facility. I have to say that city staff has done a great job of this. With MRIF (Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund) funding over the last year we installed blower fans on the east wall to force cold air over the rink which allows for an earlier skating season and and addresses past issues with the quality of ice at that end. Funding was also approved by city council to straighten out the boards, now they look brand new and have the capacity to be adjusted and leveled as needed in the future. All in all the rink looks like a million bucks and promises to serve the needs of hockey and other users better than ever before. (Thanks to Dan Davidson of the Klondike Sun for providing the photo.)
